Help with the book Of Mice and Men?

Okay so I have to write an essay on two characters from Of Mice and Men. The two characters are Crooks and Candy. I'm supposed to compare them with three elements, which I have chosen: Loneliness, Low Social Status, and their appearance. What I need help with is a "grabber beginning" ex: A inspirational quote that ties in with my three elements. Can anyone give me some quotes that I could possibly use?
