How to build a homemade extension grabber?

I have to build a homemade extension grabber that can reach out 60cm to go into a closet or retrieve an item from under a bed. I must also be able to get the ideal mechanical advantage of the device itself. I have to test it infront of my teacher a couple of times so it must be very durable. thanks =)
