Essay on macbeth--->Help.!?
In Shakespeare's time women were only wives and mothers. There are few really decent female parts in shakespeare. Now Lady Mac is a little different. She is ambitious and the only way to live this is through her husband. Probably why they are together. For her time she is very powerful and brave in terms of personality. Macbeth says to her bring forth men children only for thy undaunted mettle should compose only males. She calls to the spirits to "unsex me here". Clearly her femininity is seriously in question or even sacrificed as far as shakespeare is concerned or she would not have been capable of the things she does. Modern audiences however would not have so much difficulty reconciling her actions with being a woman, we are used to powerful, ambitious even devious females in reality as well as in drama. Also, in Shakespeares world there was the concept of cosmology, an ordered universe, Lady M is defying that order. Remember the storm and all the symbolism of nature at war with itself? That relates not only to macbeth's going against nature when he murders Duncan, his kinsman and king, but to her going against her feminine nature as well. Hope this helps. The unsex me thing could lead to your attention grabber
